The free-to-use “Essential Lineman Training: Working with Steel Utility Poles” course was initially developed to assist with the minimal learning curve associated with installing and maintaining steel utility poles. Today, over 600 electric utilities are using steel distribution poles, and training with steel poles has become standard for helping students and line workers gain valuable skills and knowledge. The training course was developed in partnership with respected industry leaders in utility safety and linework training, including the Institute for Safety in Powerline Construction (ISPC) and Metropolitan Community College (MCC). A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Entergy on behalf of residents and business owners who lost power following Hurricane Ida….The lawsuit cites a 2007 “Hardening Study” that it said Entergy performed. “This study provided Entergy sufficient information needed to develop strategies to harden its infrastructure for Southeast Louisiana,” the complaint states. It also showed Entergy “needed to support coastal transmission lines with concrete and steel poles, rather than wood poles.
The US Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to ban all uses of the wood preservative pentachlorophenol. The decision comes after the sole producer of the chemical in North America announced that it was shutting down its pentachlorophenol business by the end of this year.
